Atlantic Airways arrive in Edinburgh

30.03.2015: With a burst of stirring traditional Scottish music, a new air service linking Edinburgh with the Faroe Islands took off last night.

Atlantic Airways, national carrier of the North Atlantic Faroe islands has launched the service as part of its new strategy to build stronger connections with neighbouring countries.

The first incoming flight from the Faroe islands was met last night at the Scottish capital’s airport by a water canon “salute” from the airport’s fire service, while passengers were piped off the Airbus A319 aircraft by piper Bill Loughridge, who also works as one of the airport’s duty managers.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the first departing flight.
